headspace Mackay officially open!

During a morning of celebrations, the headspace Mackay centre was officially opened on Wednesday 3 April 2013.
headspace Mackay provides 12 – 25 year olds in the region access to a range of services to improve their mental health and general wellbeing.
The day began with a laneway party filled with supporters, young people, families, parents, and the headspace team. Guests enjoyed a BBQ breakfast, tours of the new headspace centre, entertainment from Hot FM’s Courtney during an outside broadcast and art activities such as helping to paint a canvas for the centre.
“It was a really fun morning, it was great to see so many members of our community getting up early to have breakfast with us and show their support for our centre,” said Sandi Winner, Youth Engagement and Community Development Coordinator, headspace Mackay.
“With lots of help from the local community, the headspace Mackay centre is now open, ready and able to provide young people with somewhere to turn to get help for problems they may be experiencing,” Ms Winner said.
An official ceremony was held later in the morning with Liz Burgat, headspace’s National Head of Clinical Programs, cutting the ribbon to officially mark the opening of headspace Mackay.
“Young people in Mackay now have access to a range of services such as general health, mental health and counselling, education, employment, alcohol, drug and many other services,” Ms Burgat said.
If you’d like to stop into the new centre and say hello to the friendly staff you can find them at 36 Wood Street, Mackay or give them a call on 4898 2200.
headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing support, information and advice to young people aged 12 to 25.
