Course information and outcomes:

This qualification covers workers who provide a range of community services for people affected by mental health conditions and focusing on recovery and support, implementing activities and mental health promotion work through programs delivered by the Mental Health Community or Government Sectors.

This qualification defines the knowledge and skills required by workers working autonomously and/or under broad guidance within the mental health sector and refers to specific knowledge of mental health issues and appropriate intervention processes applied in clinical and community settings.

Occupational titles for these workers may include:

• Community rehabilitation and support worker
• Mental health rehabilitation support worker
• Community Support Worker
• Mental Health Support Worker
• Mental Health Outreach Worker
• Employment consultant/coordinator

Entry requirements:

There are no entry requirements, however working in the primary healthcare environment, or work experience in the Health or  Community sectors would be an advantage.

Course Duration:

This qualification can be completed in 12 months depending on a skills recognition process with a combination of up to 12 face to face workshops and self-paced workbooks and activities.

Course Units:

This course is nationally recognised and is a component of the National Health Training Package qualification. Requirements for Award of this qualification include 10 Core Units and 5 Elective Units.
